Directorate of Propulsion

The Directorate of Propulsion provides airworthiness coverage for ab-initio design & development for engine projects, licence manufacturing/overhaul /repair of aero engines, indigenisation of airborne stores, bought-out engines. This directorate also provides coverage to ab-initio aircraft of fuel system & power plant system, secondary power system (SPS) of aircraft through its three regional centres of military airworthiness(RCMA). In addition, this directorate is also involved in the release of various airworthiness procedures/ regulations and evolving guidelines for aero engines.

Regional Centre Military Airworthiness (Engines) provides airworthiness certification coverage of all type of aero engines of western origin viz. turbojet, turbofan, turboprop, turboshaft, piston & rotary engines and starters. RCMA (Engines) also provides certification coverage for bought-out and joint development aero-engines programs. In addition, it provides coverage for indigenisation of various systems, airborne stores etc. In addition, RCMA (Engines) also provides support for secondary power system, general system and propulsion systems of various projects of ADA.

Regional Centre of Military Airworthiness(GTRE) is located in the premises of GTRE, Bengaluru. It provides airworthiness certification for advanced aero gas-turbine engines indigenously designed & developed and Advanced Turbo Gas Generator. RCMA (GTRE) also caters the certification requirements for indigenous development of LRUs/components besides coordinating & guiding system safety analysis for various projects. In addition, this office also works on the airworthiness aspects of propulsion system, secondary power system  and aircraft fuel system of fixed wings and other projects.

Regional Centre for Military Airworthiness (Koraput) is located in premises of HAL (Koraput), Sunabeda. It is responsible for airworthiness of Russian origin aero-engines manufactured and overhauled by HAL(Koraput). The RCMA is also mandated with the responsibility to ensure airworthiness of aero-engines, its associated systems, sub-systems and LRUs.
