At CEMILAC we follow concurrent certification where in the certification activity and Design and Development (D&D) activities go hand in hand. The process of airworthiness certification starts right from capturing requirements. Once the requirements are ready, feasibility study for the requirements to be carried with the inputs from CEMILAC. System safety analysis will be done to arrive at the criticality classification and functional hazard and their severity. The severity classification will decide the extent of certification activities. As the designer progresses through the design, development and realization of the product, documentation are produced which are then and there reviewed and commented by CEMILAC/RCMA at several stages of D&D. Certain documents require approval by CEMILAC before it can be used for further design and evaluation activities. All inspection activities are to be covered by independent government nominated inspection agency. CEMILAC does performance evaluation of the system through reviews, analysis, and qualification testing; thereby CEMILAC ensures that the system is robust and reliable for all-environmental conditions as per requirements. After this, CEMILAC issues a clearance for usage of the systems into intended airborne platform for carrying out development trial. If the equipment is not flight critical, it can be flight tested after carrying out minimum amount of testing (Safety of Flight Test). After series of trials with airborne platform, based on satisfactory performance report from services, CEMILAC extends the clearance for production by giving type approval for each design. Type Approval is not an assurance for a production order.
