(TIRC) at Institute of Nuclear Medicine and Allied Sciences (INMAS) is the backbone of the Institute as it disseminates current & specific information to all categories of users. It has over 27555 documents including 13000 textbooks, reference books, reports, manual and yearbooks, 11500 bound volume of journals, more than 50 PhD theses and 3155 books in Hindi language and added about 472 latest books and serials every year. It also subscribes to 154 current periodicals in print and electronic format. INMAS library is presently subscribing to 135 electronic journals with high impact factor from renowned international publishers such as ACS, Elsevier, John Wiley, IOP, OVID, OUP, Nature Publishing Group, Sage and SpringerLink. The library collection is classified and arranged according to the Universal Decimal Classification Scheme.
A state of art ST-E-Discovery PET Scanner & PET trace, 16.5 MeV Cyclotron with an external beam for radiation experiments is installed at the Institute. Main applications will be in development of radiopharmaceuticals as well as basic & applied clinical research in NBC and oncology. The PET department houses the BGO crystal based Positron Emission Tomography -16 slice Computerized Tomography (PET/CT) Camera with a resolution of around 6 mm. The camera is used for acquiring the images using Positron Emitter labelled. The department also houses the 15O-water generator for production of 15O-water and infusion directly into patient as the half-life of 15O is only 2 minutes. There are equipment and facilities for safe handling and to dispense radiopharmaceuticals like lead shields, L-Bench, Lead lined bins, dose monitors and area monitors. Majority of work revolves around scanning of patients for medical reasons using various in house produced radiopharmaceuticals. The facility has been utilized by various institutions for benefit of the patients like Army Hospital Research and Referral Delhi, All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi etc. The centre also boasts of the expertise to handle various decision making studies done by various bodies like International Atomic Energy regulatory board (IAEA), Vienna.
A multi-laser flow cytometer (LSR-II from M/s Beckton Dickinson, USA) has been installed at INMAS. The instrument offers UV laser (350 nm), Blue line laser (488 (nm) and a diode laser (630 nm) with excitations and supports analysis up to 10 parameters (2 scatter and 8 colors).
Osteoporosis is a major public health problem worldwide. Bone scanning by dual energy X-ray (DEXA) is the good standard. An advanced digital Radiology Bone Densitometer is installed at INMAS. It is an ideal system for bone strength assessment. The bone assessment is based on the WHO definition of osteoporosis.
The 400 MHz & 600 MHz Nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer is installed at INMAS to obtain optimum results in exceptionally demanding life science applications viz. structural proteomics, structural metabolomics, high-throughput screening, spatially resolved spectroscopy. NMR machine will allow scientists to produce images of oligopeptides and other molecules in solution which lead to the design of new drugs and vaccines. In addition to the INMAS faculty and students, the machine will also be used by researchers of collaborating universities and institutions for research work.
'State of art' 3 Tesla Human MRI system has been recently installed at NMR Research Centre. Its multi-channel capabilities and TIM technology has improved SNR manifolds and makes high resolution imaging possible in shorter duration. TIM technology and high resolution capabilities have opened the avenues for MR Spectroscopy, Whole Body Diffusion, Perfusion, Diffusion Tractography, Dynamic imaging, Whole Body Contrast Enhanced Angiography possible without the need of changing coils.
State of the art 7 Tesla Small Animal NMR imaging facility has been installed recently. It will facilitate advanced Biomedical research in the thrust areas of the Institute and relevant to DRDO with special reference to radiation injury and protection. The facility is also useful for other national biomedical laboratories working in the areas of high altitude, cognitive functions, agriculture sciences, drug design and delivery systems. It will facilitate research in stem cell technology through optimization of drug delivery techniques via detection of tagged cells and monitoring of genes and drugs, thus aiding cancer therapy and gene therapy. NMR Spectroscopy (1H, 13C, 19F & 31P) will provide information about energy metabolism in health and disease. Controlled experiments performed on small animals, enabling us to explore mechanism underlying cerebral response to stress thus verifying different strategies for neuroprotection and creating a better understanding about Defence personnel subjected to different stressors.
Department of Nuclear Medicine at INMAS has a Siemens Symbia T2, True Point SPECTCT system which is a dual-detector variable angle gamma camera with a CT scanner optimized for rapid, accurate attenuation correction and precise localization of the molecular imaging data. The gamma camera is extensively being used at INMAS for pharmacoscintigraphy applications along with clinical diagnostic procedures. The facility has been used to develop more than 30 novel drug formulations under the INMAS drug development program, including formulations for high altitude related medical problems, NBC antidotes, and drug formulations for LIC medical management.

A new Tele-Cobalt mac hine, Bhabhatron-II has been installed at INMAS. Bhabhatron-II has Cobalt-60, as gamma radiation source This Tele-Cobalt machine is one of the major radiation facilities available for gamma irradiation of experimental animals and cell cultures. At present, it is extensively used for radiobiological studies under various ongoing research programs related to the development of radiation countermeasures at INMAS.

Nude mice is a genetically tailored 'Knock-out' mice, which is devoid of the Thymus (Athymic) and also devoid of hair (thus nude) on the skin. In the absence of the thymus, the 'T' cells (a type of lymphocytes) are not formed. Because of absence of 'T' cells, the 'Nude' mice cannot reject tumors or transplant of cells from other species. This is of much use in cancer and immune research. 'Nude' is an autosomal recessive gene, when present in two copies, produces nude characters. This is created by deleting the Exon 7 on chromosome No. 21 which transcribes the thymus growth factor (TGF-7). This can also easily be created by removing the thymus of the mouse within 21 days of birth. INMAS has developed a special cell at the Experimental Animal Facility to maintain 'nude' mice.
