KADAM

Kadam is a poly-centric prosthetic knee joint for persons with trans-femoral amputation and is an indigenous and affordable above-knee prosthesis complying to ISO 10328 standards. It is developed by Society of Biomedical Joint (SBMT- coordinated by DRDO) in collaboration with IIT Madras. Trans-femoral (above knee) amputations are one of the most common amputations in cases of trauma and due to diabetes mellitus. Lower extremity amputations in India run into several lakhs and are increasing every year. The items have been productionized and user trials have been conducted in conjunction with M/s Mobility India. The product awareness and training workshops have been conducted in leading institutes of rehabilitation. The ToT has been completed and product was launched in Dec 2024 by the Minister of Social Justice, GoI at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
