DQR&S is responsible for formulation of DRDO policies covering quality, reliability & safety and their implementation. The broad Roles and Functions are as follows:
- Formulate and implement general policy on Quality, Reliability, Software Quality, IV&V and act as a nodal point at corporate level for these functions.
- Assist DRDO Labs/Estts in evolving appropriate Quality Assurance/Reliability (hardware and software) plans suiting their specific needs and to act as a catalyst to ensure that these plans are properly implemented.
- Formulate standards and guidelines for software development, software quality and reliability.
- Promote Quality Reliability & Safety culture in DRDO and bring in organizational changes where required.
- Conduct the audit levels IV & V of the software assets of the Labs and recommend on the adequacy of prior IV & V carried out.
- Carry out Quality & Reliability reviews and to assist in internal audit of various DRDO Labs/Estts/Centres.
- Participate as a member in Test & Evaluation Committee and Failure Analysis Board for Major/Catastrophic failure of systems.
- Coordinate within and outside DRDO on all quality related activities including compliance to ISO-9000 certification requirements.
- Guide each cluster of Laboratories to generate common standards for materials, components and workmanship.
- Ensure formulation of safety policy, establishment of safety structure and promotion of safety culture in the organisation.
