National Science Day was celebrated on 28 Feb 2019 at JC Bose Auditorium of MTRDC. A brief introduction was presented memorizing the invention of Raman Effect by Dr. CV Raman. During the event, Shri U Shanmughanathan, Scientist ‘E’ of MTRDC delivered a talk on ‘High Voltage Pulse Power Source for Defence Applications’. He gave a brief introduction of high voltage pulse power sources (PPSs). Advanced weapons utilizing high voltage PPS can defeat any kind of enemy weapon system. These PPS are utilizing very high electrical energy for short duration to perform respective activity. He explained about design and development of high voltage pulse power sources used for high power microwaves (HPM) based directed energy weapon (DEW) system, electromagnetic (EM) rail gun, electric armour and underwater electrical wire explosion. Firing trials and technology challenges were also discussed. Dr. G S Reddy, SA to RM, Secretary Defence R&D and Chairman, DRDO, issued a national science day medal and a certificate, which were presented to Shri. U Shanmughanathan by Dr. SUM Reddy, Director MTRDC. Dr. SUM Reddy also addressed and expressed his best wishes to the gathering of officers and staff of MTRDC.
