A workshop on challenges and issues related to health and hygiene in rural society was held in Udmari village, Sonitpur District on 8th March 2019. The topics covered included the importance of proper handwashing, control and prevention of lice infestation, importance of vaccination in pregnant women and children, care during menstruation and the use of clean drinking water. The Director, Dr. S.K. Dwivedi, along with a team of scientists and staff from DRL, Tezpur and Mrs.Neera Sarma was present to address the rural community. Mrs. Neera Sarma is also known as the “Bamboo Lady” for her significant work in helping the rural communities generate income and earn a livelihood through sustainable use of bamboo in making various articles like jewelry. A practical demonstration on health and hygiene was given to the people of the village and a hygiene kit was distributed among them. Around 50 people attended the workshop.
