Prof. MGK Menon
SA to RM & DG DRDO
[17.08.1974 – 10.07.1978]
Prof. M Govind Kumar Menon, an internationally known physicist, was Chairman, Electronics Commission and Director, Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai, before assuming the Office of SA to RM on 17 August 1974. He studied Advanced Physics at the University of Bristol and obtained the PhD degree in 1953. At Bristol, he worked with Nobel Laureate Professor CF Powell. Prof. Menon’s main contributions to the Organisation were two-fold. He gave thrust to projects where DRDO could contribute effectively and make a significant impact and actively encouraged and supported the strategic perspective on the new technology of missile warfare. Secondly, he made significant changes in the personnel policy of the DRDO and eliminated rigidity and inflexibility by which they were earlier characterised.
