Defence Institute of High Altitude Research (DIHAR), organized its 25th Ladakhi Kisan Jawan Vigyan Mela on 11th & 12th Aug 2018. The main theme of the mela was to disseminate technical know-how of various agro-animal technologies developed by DIHAR among the local farmers and troops deployed in Ladakh sector.
The Mela was inaugurated on 11th Aug 2018 by Lt Gen SK Upadhya, AVSM, SM, VSM, General Officer Commanding, HQ 14 Corps who appreciated DIHAR for its endeavors over the years since 1960s and appreciated the scientists and local farmers in helping army by providing quality organic fresh foods to the troops. The valedictory ceremony was held on 12th Aug 2018 which was presided over by Sh Dorjay Motup, Hon’ble Chief Executive Councilor of Ladakh Autonomous Hill development Council, Leh. He asked the local farmers to take maximum benefit from DIHAR and make Ladakh self sufficient in fresh food production. He emphasized that farmers should pay frequent visits to DIHAR and take the guidance of DIHAR scientists in adoption of new and appropriate technologies.
Over the years, the Mela has grown in it size and scope and evolved as a platform for interaction among farmers, troops and scientists. It not only aids in dissemination of technologies developed by the scientists at DIHAR but also portrays the harmony between scientists, army and civil population in the remote and strategic Ladakh sector.
In line with DIHAR, Leh, the Mela was also organized at DIHAR Dett in Siachen sector on 26th August 2018 which was presided over by Col Vikram Bhan, Dy Cdr, HQ 102 Inf Bde.
