The monograph discusses gas turbine materials (with emphasis on Ti-alloys and Ni-superalloys). The monograph begins with a historical perspective of turbine development and covers some basic principles of jet propulsion and material science. The main emphasis remains on the high temperature gas turbine materials – their manufacturing from alloy to components, as well as their development and applications.
It is essentially a book on material science. However, due to the complexity of gas turbines and their wider appeal, it is of equal interest for both the material scientists and the mechanical/aeronautical engineers involved in gas turbine development and maintenance.

About the Author : Dr Debashis Mukherji received BTech (H) and PhD (Metallurgical Engineering) from IIT Kharagpur, India. He started his research career as a Junior Scientific Officer at the DMRL, Hyderabad, in 1976 and in 1987 moved to the Hahn Meitner Institut and the Technische Universität Berlin, Germany as a postdoc fellow and later became a Research Scientist and in 1998 joined as faculty at Technische Universität Berlin. He pursued R&D of Nickel base superalloys. Throughout his career he worked for the development of gas turbine materials and in the later stage developed a new class of Co-Re-based superalloys for higher temperature application than Ni-superalloys. He also participated in several pan German and joint European projects for development of gas turbine material beyond Ni-base superalloys. He has expertise in vacuum melting, material characterization, electron microscopy, neutron scattering and x-ray, neutron and synchrotron diffraction.
He has more than 220 publications in reviewed International journals including 3 books and 4 German and European patents.
