Shri PT Rojatkar is an acknowledged expert in development of Artillery rockets, its launching, C3I and support systems. He has been instrumental in design and development of the prestigious Pinaka weapon system which is today possessed by the Indian Army. Pinaka weapon system productionisation and its AHSP transfer also took place under his leadership. He is a mechanical engineering graduate from Pune University and post graduate in Advance Weapon Technology from Institute of Armament Technology, Pune (now DIAT). He started his carrier as Sc ‘B’ in the year 1988 at ARDE, Pune and rose up to Outstanding Scientist before assuming charge as Director, NMRL in April 2021. His area of work includes design and development of:

  • Artillery rockets viz. Pinaka Mk-I, Pinaka TCS, Pinaka Mk-I (Enhanced), Pinaka Mk-II, 122 mm Extended Range, ERASR and Guided Pinaka.
  • Ground systems of Pinaka viz. Multi Barrel Rocket Launcher,Battery Command Post Repair vehicle and Simulators.
  • Fire control of Pinaka weapon system and various artillery guns viz. 130 mm, 155 mm Bofors and ATAGS.

He has won several awards to include Tipu Sultan Award (1995), Brig SK Thadani Trophy (1995), Pinaka MBRS DRDO Award (1996), DRDO Laboratory Scientist of the Year Award (2007), DRDO performance excellence award (2012), AGNI award for Pinaka Mk-II development (2016) and AGNI award for Guided Pinaka development (2017). He has participated in OP Vijay (Kargil war) in 1999 as a part of Army-DRDO team along with Pinaka weapon system.

He is also Vice President of Aeronautical Society of India, Pune Chapter and Indian National Society for Aerospace and Related Mechanism (INSARM), Pune Chapter.
