ARMAMENT RESEARCH BOARD

DRDO is devoted to the design and development of state-of-the-art Defence systems. DRDO’s chain of over 50 laboratories covers a wide spectrum of disciplines. In pursuit of acquiring self-sufficiency in critical technologies, DRDO has endeavored to undertake and pursue research in scientific fields leading to state-of-the-art technologies needed for design and development of world class equipment/systems. For achieving this DRDO has collaborated with the academic institutions, R&D organisations and industry.

For promoting innovative research in scientific fields useful for armament discipline, DRDO has recently constituted Armament Research Board (ARMREB). Armament being a complex multi-disciplinary field involving ballistics and aerodynamics, materials and metallurgy, mechanical and electronic engineering, opto-electronics and computer techniques, explosives & pyrotechnics, modeling, simulation and system analyses, etc. Six research panels, covering the entire spectrum of armament discipline, have been constituted to make the functioning of the Board more effective.

ARMREB has instituted a Grants-in-Aid Scheme to harness and nurture the research talents available in academic institutions. Under this scheme, grants are offered to research organisations/ universities/colleges/departments/ laboratories/industries for research in basic sciences and engineering, setting up basic facilities/infrastructures, conduct of seminars/symposia/workshops/short courses, deputations/training of manpower, higher studies etc. Rules for applying for grants under various schemes have been published in February 1999 and widely circulated.
