Commodore G Kuruvilla

Commodore G Kuruvilla, VSM, Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), Kochi, has been promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral w.e.f. 11 August 2003. Born in 1944, Rear Adm Kuruvilla obtained his post-graduation in Mechanical Machine Design from College of Engineering, Trivandrum and was commissioned in the Indian Navy in April 1969. He had served on-board INS Garuda and INS Tir before joining DRDO in 1974.

At NPOL, since 1974 he has made valuable contributions in major system projects such as hull mounted sonar Apsoh, variable depth sonar Humvad, submarine sonars Panchendriya and Payal, airborne sonar Mihir and towed array sonar Vasuki. He has also been heading the work center of DRDL project of NPOL.

Presently, he is the Project Director of a major mission mode project named Active-cum-Passive Towed Array Sonar Mechanical-cum-Electronics system project-Nagan. The design, development and installation of the complete equipment on-board INS Mumbai has been accomplished in a record time under his guidance. Other main technical developments undertaken include the presently standardised electronic consoles for submarine and ship application, heavy and light fiber optic tow cables, winching systems for variety of applications, etc.

Rear Adm Kuruvilla is the recipient of three commendations from SA to RM, one from Chief of Naval Staff and a National Award for import substitution. He is also the recipient of Vishist Seva Medal from the President of India.

Shri K Kailasapathy

Shri K Kailasapathy, has been promoted to the rank of Sci G w.e.f.1 July 2003. Shri Kailasapathy graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Andhra University and obtained his Post-graduation from Osmania University. He joined DRDO in 1971 as JSO and has been associated in various projects on Combat Vehicles and their variants at CVRDE and has been involved in the MBT Arjun Project from its inception.

Shri Kailasapathy has made significant contributions leading to the development of MBT structures and the related system assemblies.Presently he is heading MBT Division entrusted with the responsibility of transfer of technology to Ordnance Factories. He is Associate Member, Aeronautical Society of India and Member, Institute of Mechanical Engineers (UK).
