DRDO West Zone Intra-zonal Badminton Tournament

The team from the Institute of Armament Technology (IAT) Pune, was declared winner in the DRDO West Zone Intra-zonal Badminton Tournament organised by the Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune, during 23-26 September 2002. Wg Cdr NS Prasad was the team captain. Except for men's open singles and doubles, IAT reached finals in all the events and grabbed four winner and two runner-up prizes.

                    
DRDOWest Zonelntra-zonalBtidge Tournament

The IAT, Pune, Bridge team comprising four members, viz. , Prof MD Kulkarni, Sci F; Prof GC Pant, Sci F; Lt Col B Dayal; and Maj JS Gill participated in the West Zone Intra-zonal Bridge Toumament-2002-03 hosted by the ARDE, Pune, during 16-18 September 2002. The IAT team defeated the champion host team in selection trials for representation as the West Zone Team.

HEMRL AWARDED ISO 9001: 2000 CERTIFICATION

The High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Pune, has been awARDEd the ISO 9001:2000 Certification for successfully implementing Quality Management System according to ISO 9001 :2000. The laboratory was audited and subsequently certified for ISO 9001 :2000 on 25 September 2002 by the TUV Management Services, GmbH (Germany). The certificate was awARDEd for research, design, and development of formulations and technologies for high energy materials covering solid/liquid propellants, high explosives, pyrotechnics and allied chemicals, their testing and performance evaluation. Earlier, HEMRL was also awARDEd ISO 9001: 1994 Certification in August 1999. The Successful transition from ISO 9001: 1994 to ISO 9001:2000 Standard-Based Quality Management System was possible in a short time due to the participation of all the employees of the Laboratory .

CAIR DAY CELEBRATED

The Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Robotics (CAIR), Bangalore, celebrated CAIR Day on 17 October 2002. ProfM Balakrishnan, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, was the chief guest. At the function, Director, CAIR highlighted the growth and achievements of the laboratory. Prof M Balakrishnan delivered a talk entitled, Can we become Super-human? Prof RP Shenoy gave away the Technology Group Award, Laboratory Award for DRTC, and Laboratory Award for Administration and Allied Categories.

MTRDC Foundation Day Celebrated

The Microwave Tube Research & Development Centre (MTRDC), Bangalore, celebrated its Foundation Day on 30 October 2002. Shri RP Ramalingam, Director, Defence Avionics Research Establishment (DARE), Bangalore, was the Chief Guest. He gave away prizes to the scientists and the staff. Shri KU Limaye, Director, MTRDC gave a brief overview of the activities of MTRDC. As part of the foundation day celebration, various cultural programmes, sports events, science quiz, rangoli, and flower arrangement competitions were organised.
