Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune, celebrated International Women's Day on 7 march 2003. Ms Swati Choudhary, Director,  Symbiosis Centre for Distance Learning was the chief guest. Ms Nalini Inamdar, Secretary, Jagrut  Apanga Sangathan, Pune, who is devotedly working for physically disabled, and Ms Rohini Bhumkar, TOA, from ARDE, who won the Adarsh Maata Puraskar in 2002, were felicitated on this occasion.

DMRL, Hyderabad

Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory  (DMRL), Hyderabad, celebrated Women's Day on 7 March 2003 was preceded by elocution competitions, essay writing competition, quiz and debate, on subjects related to women's  rights and women's contribution to society. On 6 March an interactive session on Women's Health and Related Issues was organised with Dr A Sukrutha Reddy, DRDO-Appolo Hospital, only for women employees. Dr B Kinnera Murthy, Dean of Sudies, Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad, was the Chief Guest and delivered key note address on Workplace Ethics.

NPOL. Kochi

Navel Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), Kochi, organised an invited talk on Changing Values in Society by Smt Leela Menon, freelance journalist on 10 march 2003. The talk focused on the Role and Problems of Women in the Contemporary Society.


RCI, Hyderabad

Dr (Mrs) Sudha P Iyer, Director, Globarena ITE KnowLedge Pvt L.td, Hyderabad, and Mrs G Rohini Devi, Sci G, ASL,Hyderabad, spok, about Role of Working Women, and Developments in Carbon-Carbon respectively. Dr V K Saraswat, Director, RCI stressed on better participation of Women in  All Areas of Work for All Round Development of Women.


Various DRDO labs/estts observed the National Safety Day at their respective places. Highlights of some of the activities are:


The National Safety Week was observed during 4-10 March 2003. Shri FU Deshpande, DS and Director, distributed prizes to the winners of the safety competitions. Shri S Venugopal, Sci F, HEMRL, Pune delivered a lecture on Hazards, Risks and Accidents.

DMRL, Hyderabad

Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory (DMRL), Hyderabad, observed National Safety Day on 4 March 2003. The celebration included several competitions to bring awareness about safety at work place. Shri K Kondala Rao, Joint' Chief Inspector of Factories (Retd) was the Chief Guest, who delivered the key note address and gave away the prizes.

The National Safety Week was observed during 4-8 March 2003 and as a part of the celebrations safety badges were distributed. A Safety, Health and Environment Magazine (SHE Bulletin) was published and a mock fire drill was conducted. A safety rolling trophy was given to Gun Propellant Division of HEMRL. Two invited talks were also delivered as a mark of the event.

ITR, Chandipur

The 32nd National, Safety Day was organised at ITR, Chandipuron 4 March 2003. Shri SC Narang, Director, ITR, briefed all the employees about the various Safety Policies and Safety Awareness. The Safety Rolling Trophy and certificate was awARDEd to Photo Processing Group for their best safety conscious practices. A documentary on safety awareness was shown to the staff.

NPOL, Kochi

Naval Physical and Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), Kochi, observed 32nd National Safety Week. The programme included hoisting of safety flag, safety pledge by employees, poster display and distribution of prizes to the winners of various safety competition. A three day course on safety and first aid was also part of the celebration.

PXE. Balasore

The National Safety Day was observed on 4 March 2003 at PXE. All officers and staff took a mass pledge to observe safety precautions during day-to-day work. Shri RR Shinde, Joint GM, Ordnance Factory, Chanda delivered a lecture on Safety Awareness. Prizes were awARDEd to winners of safety slogan contest held earlier .

RCI, Hyderabad

The 32nd National Safety Day was observed by Research Centre Imarat, Hyderabad, on 20 March 2003. Shri S Sankara Subramanian GM, MPMC, Range Safety, Satish Dhavan Space Centre, Shriharikota, was the Chief Guest.
