Continuing Education Programme
Under the continuing education programme (CEP) of DRDO, the Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), Bangalore, organised a course on Gas Turbine Technology from 31 January to 11 February 2000. Twenty-eight participants from various DRDO labs/estts attended the course. The topics covered during the course were: introduction to turbo machines, gas turbine engine and its applications, principles of gas turbine combustion, gas turbine cycles, afterburners, engine control systems, nozzle control system, oil and lubrication systems, fuel system, performance and testing of gas turbine engine, starting and ignition systems, instrumentation and data acquisition, quality assurance, Kaveri marine engine, airworthiness aspects, flying test bed and altitude testing, and other gas turbine related topics.
Dr JJ Isaac, Sci G, Propulsion Division, NAL, Bangalore, who presided over the valedictory function, distributed course certificates to the participants.
The Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune, organised a CEP course on Security during 6-10 March 2000. Twenty-six participants from HEMRL, R&DE (E), and IAT, all at Pune, and VRDE, Ahmednagar, attended the course. The faculty consisted of Security Officers of these labs/estts.
The Snow & Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE), Manali, organised three courses on Study of Low Temperature and Movement in Snow-Bound Areas using Ski Equipment. One course for SASE personnel was organised from 24 January to 5 February 2000, while one course each for DRDO officers and staff was organised from 12-25 February 2000 and 27 February to 11 March 2000, respectively.
The Terminal Ballistic Research Laboratory (TBRL) Range, Chandigarh, conducted a two-day National Workshop on Explosive Welding during 24-25 February 2000. Shri VS Sethi, Director, TBRL, welcomed the Chief Guest, invitees and delegates to the Workshop. Shri PU Deshpande, CC R&D (D), DRDO HQrs, New Delhi, inaugurated the Workshop. In his inaugural address, he stressed on the need for a closer and fruitful collaboration between DRDO and industry in this fast emerging field of explosive welding. A core group may be set-up for better interaction of the problem areas, he added. Dr AK Datta, CC R&D (M) ; Dr VK Kapoor, Director of Armament and senior officers from DRDO labs/estts also attended the Workshop. Scientists and technocrats of BARC, Mumbai; IGCAR, Kalpakkam; and industry also attended the deliberations and presented technical papers.
