R&DE (Engrs), Pune

Shri Y P Pathak, Director, Research & Development Establishment (Engrs), R&DE (Engrs), Pune, has been promoted to Sci H w.e.f 19 August 2004. Shri Pathak, was appointed Director, R&DE (Engrs), on 1 August 1999. Born on 18 January 1946, Shri Pathak graduated from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh in 1967. He joined DRDO as Scientific Officer in 1969 after completing one year Defence Orientation Course at IAT, Pune. During his early years in DRDO, he was associated with the development of field defences, light weight field shelters and manually launched assault bridges for the Army. During this development he was responsible for establishing indigenous technology for structures in lightweight alloys. He served as Scientific Adviser to GOC-in-C, Western Command during 1973-1977. Since 1977, he has been guiding the research and development activities in the field of Combat Engineering at R&DE(Engrs), Pune.He graduated from the prestigious National Dfence College, New Delhi in 1996. He piloted the establishment to get ISO: 9001 Certification in 1998.Shri Pathak is the recipient of the Scientist of the Year Award-2003. He is a fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India).

GTRE, Bangalore  

Shri M S Sunder, Sci F, Gas Turbine Research Estab-lishment (GTRE), Bangalore, has been promoted to Sci G w.e.f 1 July 2004. He obtained BE from Bangalore University in 1971 and ME from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 1986. He also had a brief stint as research fellow at NAL during 1972.
He joined GTRE in 1973 and right from his initial stages he is actively involved in building up computer facility and infrastructure development including both hardware and software. He has been responsible for installation of almost all the major computing systems at GTRE. When the mainframes were gradually phased out, he successfully led the effort to introduce personal computers and introduced client-server computing and developed MIS software for administration and material management activities.Subsequently, he introduced the state-of-the-art campus LAN linking around 1000 nodes in 30 buildings covering 64 acre campus area with 1000 MHz, fibreoptic backbone and a switched network.Presently, he is leading the Computer Group in setting up high performance parallel computing facility at GTRE. His areas of interest include advanced computers, networking, management information system, project life cycle management, and office automaton.
