Appointment

Rear Admiral AK HandaRear Admiral AK Handa, VSM, has taken over as Director and Dean, Institute of Armament Technology (IAT), Pune, wef 14 March 2002. He joined the Indian Navy as commissioned officer in May 1970 after completing his BE (Mech) Hons from Thapar College of Engineering and Technology, Patiala. He has completed Naval Higher Command Course from the College of Naval Warfare, Karanja, Mumbai and Senior Defence Management Course from College of Defence Management. Admiral Handa is also an alumni of IAT having completed his Advanced Marine Engineering Course during 1977-78.

Rear Admiral Handa held appointments as Engineer Officer of four ships including commissioning of INS Shardul in Poland. He has the distinction of holding middle and senior level technical and managerial positions in both the Naval Dockyards at Visakhapatnam and Mumbai. His appointments ashore include the Directorates of Fleet Maintenance, Marine Engineering and Dockyards at Naval HQrs. His last appointment was as Director, Ship Production, responsible for all ship construction activities in India and abroad. He also had the privilege of being the Technical Assistant to Admiral Superintendent Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam; Officer on special duties to Chief of Material; and Controller of Warship Production and Acquisition at Naval HQrs. In recognition of his distinguished services, he was awARDEd Vishisht Seva Medal by the President on 26 January 2002.

TBRL, Chandigarh

Shri Manjit Singh, Sci E and Shri Pradeep Kumar, Sci D, Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), Chandigarh, have been awARDEd PhD by Punjab University, Chandigarh, for their research work entitled, Plastic Deformation of Metals under High Strain Rate; and Mathematical Analysis of Survivability of Combat Aircraft Against Single and Multiple Hits, respectively .

INMAS, Delhi

Shri AK Singh, Sci D, Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (INMAS), Delhi, has .been awARDEd PhD by the Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi, for his thesis entitled, Evaluation of Macromolecules and Antibiotics for Infection Imaging.
