Continuing Education Programme
The Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, organised a CEP course on Control and Guidance during 5-12 January 2000. Twenty-four participants attended the course. The visiting faculty was drawn from Jadavpur University, Calcutta and DRDL. The topics covered during the course included: introduction to control and guidance, various guidance methods including homing guidance, auto-pilot design, various actuators, and sensors. Dr SK Chaudhuri, Sci G, was the Course Director and Shri U Sivaganesh, Sci D and Shri MVKS Prasad, Sci C, were the Course Coordinators.
The Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune, organised a CEP course on Basic Industrial Practices, during 20-24 December 1999. Twenty-two participants attended the course.
The Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), Bangalore, organised a CEP course on Admin and Finance Management during 13-24 December 1999. Twenty-two participants from various DRDO labs/estts attended the course. The topics covered during the course were: behavioural aspects and interpersonal relationship; recruitment and reservations, concession in Government offices, career progression and promotions, performance appraisals, MIS and record management, pay fixation and pensions, central civil services, industrial and labour acts, leave policy, DRTC, DPC, disciplinary proceedings, vigilance, financial powers, accounting procedures and auditing, bills, audit objectives, budget and budgetary control, etc. Brig RN Radhakrishnan, Director, DIQA, Bangalore, was the Chief Guest for the valedictory function and distributed course certificates to the participants.
The Naval Physical & Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), Kochi, organised a CEP course on Mechanical System--Design and Fabrication during 6-17 December 1999. The objective of the course was to promote awareness of recent advances in engineering design and fabrication techniques with practical applications in the field. Shri HRS Sastry, Associate Director, NPOL, inaugurated the course. Twenty-five participants from various DRDO labs/estts attended the course.
The topics covered during the course included: mechanical system design, materials, CAD/CAM, electronic packaging, winch and handling systems, sonars and transducers, sealing and sealing materials, NC machines, general workshop practices, and electromechanical connectors. Shri KRGK Murthy, Associate Director, NPOL, presided over the valedictory function and distributed the course certificates to the participants. Shri M Aravindakshan Sci E was the Course Coordinator.
Under the continuing education programme (CEP) of DRDO, the Defence Scientific Information & Documentation Centre (DESIDOC), Delhi, organised a course on Communication Skills during 6-10 December 1999. Fifteen participants from various DRDO labs/estts attended the course. The contents of the course were designed keeping in view the feedback of the previous course. The topics covered during the course were: oral communication and visuals in communication, scientific communication through writing, communication channels and methods, official communication, internet communication, and barriers to effective communication. Apart from DESIDOC, the faculty was drawn from IIT and NISCOM (CSIR), both at New Delhi.
The Defence Bio-Engineering & Electromedical Laboratory (DEBEL), Bangalore, organised a CEP course on Human Factors Consideration in Military Equipment Design, during 6-10 December 1999. Seventeen participants from various DRDO labs/estts attended the course. About 17 lectures relating to human factors in military equipment design were delivered during the course. Air Cmde SP Deshmukh, Commandant, IAM, Bangalore, inaugurated the course and delivered the keynote address. Earlier, Shri CGS Sarma, Director, DEBEL, introduced the course to the participants. Dr T Lazar Mathew, Director, INMAS, Delhi, delivered the valedictory address and distributed course certificates to the participants.
The Solidstate Physics Laboratory (sspl), Delhi, organised a CEP course on Basic Manufacturing Technology from 29 November to 3 December 1999. Dr Vikram Kumar, Director, sspl, inaugurated the course. Sixteen participants from various DRDO labs/estts attended the course. The topics covered during the course were: engineering drawing and blue printstudy, machining process, workshop mathematics, tool material and tool geometry, fundamentals of NC/CNC machines, non-destructive test of materials, non-conventional methods of machining, welding technology, system of limits and fit and super finishing processing, engineering materials, surface measurement and metrology, latest trends in manufacturing technology, introduction to ISO-9000, and leadership and self-development. Shri Man Mohan Singh, Sci D, was the Course Coordinator.
The Naval Physical & Oceanographic Laborartory (NPOL), Kochi, organised an Intellectual Property Right Awareness Programme during 14-15 Deccember 1999. Shri V Chander, Director, NPOL, inaugurated the Programme. Shri V Gulwani, Jt Adviser and Shri Avinash Kumar, Dy Director, IPR, Directorate of Tech Coord and IPR, DRDO HQrs, New Delhi, delivered lectures on the importance and implications of IPR. The topics covered in the Programme included: safeguarding IPR, salient provisions of Indian Patents Act, drafting patent specifications, patent cooperation treaty, and introduction to GATT/TRIPS. In the concluding session, Shri HRS Sastry, Associate Director, NPOL, highlighted the necessity and significance of patents and the future efforts and promise of DRDO in this direction.
