Shri K Tamilmani, Sci G, has been appointed Director, Centre for Air Borne Systems (CABS), Bangalore, w.e.f. 22 March 2004. He obtained his graduation from MIT, Chennai; Post Graduate Diploma in Rockets and Missiles from BITS, Ranchi; MA (Defence Studies) from Madras University; and MBA (HRD) from IGNOU.

He has served in Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), Bangalore and CEMILAC-the Indian Airworthiness Certification Agency before joining CABS in 1985. He is one of the two Flight Test Instrumentation Engineers of DRDO trained at EPNER, France.

He is recipient of the DRDO Outstanding Contribution Awards-1992 & 1995; and Prof VM Ghatge Award by Aeronautical Society of India-1995 for his significant contributions to the indigenous Airborne Early Warning (AEW). He is a fellow of Aeronautical Society of India.

Dr KS Manja, has been appointed Director of Personnel, DRDO HQrs w.e.f. 1 May 2004. He obtained his Post Graduation in Medical Microbiology from Kasturba Medical College, Manipal in 1970. He did his research on leprosy at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi and later joined Defence Research and Development Establishment (DRDE), Gwalior, as a SSO-1. He has developed a novel method of testing microbial pollution in drinking water, which is being used in South America, Canada, South East Asia, etc.

He is the editor, Asian Journal of Experimental Sciences and a member of Editorial Board of International Journal of Food. He is also member, Specialist Group, Health Related Water Microbiology, UK; and Chairman, Expert Committee (1999-2001) constituted by UNICEF and Ministry of Rural Areas and Employment, Government of India for devising simple microbiological test for rural water supply. He has three patents and 94 research publications to his credit. Two of the patented products are available in the international market.

He has been awARDEd Vijnana Rathna jointly by National Centre for Science & Technology Communication, New Delhi and Science Centre, Gwalior in 1991. He was Director, Life Sciences and Secretary, Life Sciences Research Board, DRDO HQrs during 2002-2004.

Maj Gen T Ravindranath, AVSM, VSM, Director, Institute of Nuclear Medicine & Allied Sciences (INMAS), Delhi, has been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General w.e.f. 12 May 2004. Lt Gen T Ravindranath graduated from Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad in 1966 and joined Army Dental Corps in April 1967. He has served the nation during Indo-Pak War in 1971. He served at high altitude and operational areas, and on deputation to Bhutan as part of Indian military training team and worked in Indo-Bhutan friendship hospital.

He did his Masters of Dental Surgery in 1981 from Bombay University and has been a classified specialist in Armed Forces since then. He joined INMAS in 1991 and established the Department of Dental Research to develop indigenous titanium medical devices for oral and skeletal rehabilitation. These devices have been used in war casualties during Kargil operations "Operation Vijay" at Srinagar, Udhampur and Delhi. The titanium dental implants along with surgical kit and plate mesh developed under his guidance at INMAS have been introduced into service establishments and civil institutions.

He is also recipient of Technology Award by DRDO and special citation from SA to RM in 1997. He was extended Proclamation of Welcome by the Mayor of Cleveland, Ohio, USA in 1995. He is a fellow of American Dentaire International, member of Indian Dental Association, and Indian Prosthodontic Society. He is also the Chief Executive, Society for Biomedical Technology. He has three patents and 42 design registrations to his credit.
