MD AravamudhanShri MD Aravamudhan, Sci H & Outstanding Scientist has been appointed Director, Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), Bangalore, wef 7 January 2002. Born on 27 October 1945, Shri Aravamudhan obtained his BE (Mech) from the University of Madras in 1967 and ME (Aero) from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, in 1969. After a tenure of ten years at HAL, he joined DRDO in May 1979. His areas of interest and specialisation include aircraft and weapons aerodynamics, UAV technologies and systems, project management and corporate planning, and general management. In his professional career of thirty-two years, he has covered aerodynamics and UAV technologies-the two key areas in Defence Technology. He is a fellow of the Aeronautical Society of India and has received DRDO Cash Award for Aerodynamic Analysis of Rotodomed HS 748 ASWAC Aircraft, 1992.

HEMRL Celebrated Annual Day

The High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Pune, celebrated its Annual Day on Smt Girija Singh and Dr Haridwar Singh inaugurating the Annual Day Celebration1 March 2002. Dr Haridwar Singh, Outstanding Scientist & Director, HEMRL inaugurated the function. Various sports events, competitions in cultural events, flower arrangements, crafts, and cookery were organised as a part of the celebration. Sixty-nine officers and staff were awARDEd for their contribution in projects and devotion to duty; 18 officers and staff were awARDEd DRDO Awards  at laboratory level in various categories while 17 officers the Annual Day Celebration and staff who have completed 25 years of service were also honoured by the Director, HEMRL. Smt Girija Singh, W/o Dr Haridwar Singh gave away prizes to all the winners. A Dog Show demonstrated by trained dog squad of HEMRL was the major attraction of the function.

DRDO Labs/Estts Celebrated International Women's Day

Various DRDO labs/estts celebrated the  International Women's Day on 8 March 2002. Highlights of some of the activities are given here:

DMRL, Hyderabad

The celebration included various competitions like essay writing (in Telugu, Hindi & English),   elocution competition, debate, etc. Dr P Jyothi, University of Hyderabad, was the Chief Guest and delivered the keynote address on Role of Women in Work Life Situations.

DMSRDE, Kanpur

Smt Anita Bhatnagar Jain, IAS and Vice Chairperson, Kanpur Development Authority, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. Professor GN Mathur, Director, DMSRDE welcomed the Chief Guest who emphasized that there should be no disparity between education of male and female child and appealed everybody to raise their voices against injustice on females. Several cultural programmes were also organised to mark the occasion.

NPOL, Cochin

The celebration included an invited talk by Dr Seethalakshmi George, Psychiatrist, Navajyothy, Kusumagiri Hospital, Cochin, on Family in a Changing Society which focussed on the importance and relation of family in the present society.
