DRDO Young Scientist Award

The following Young Scientists were conferred with the DRDO Young Scientist Award by Dr VK Aatre, Scientific Adviser to Raksha Mantri and DG R&D during the DRDO Directors' Conference held at Metcalfe House, Delhi, on 23 February 2002.

KH KochaleemaSmt KH Kochaleema, Sci D, Naval Physical Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), Cochin, was awARDEd in recognition of her outstanding contributions in Developing Signal Processing Controller for MIHIR Sonar System and providing novel solutions for bottlenecks due to high data rate/volumes which was effectively utilised in the development of submarine sonar and other similar systems.



Sanjai K DwivediDr Sanjai K Dwivedi, Sci C, Field Research Laboratory, (FRL), Leh, has been awARDEd for carrying out extensive studies on various aspects of Seabuckthorn, a neglected plant growing in remote high altitude of Ladakh area and brought out its inherent nutritional and medicinal qualities. The developed technology is used on commercial basis for production of herbal beverage having immense Potential for the armed forces.

Best Paper Award

M KameswarShri M Kameswar Rao, JRF, Defence Research and Development Establishment, (DRDE), Gwalior, was adjudged first for research paper entitled, Mass Spectrometric Identification of S-mustard Adducts of DNA and Protein at the 10th ISMAS Workshop on Mass Spectrometry held at Puri from 25 February-1 March 2002.


Swadeshi Science Movement Award

Dr Reji John, Sci D, Naval Physical & Oceanogaphic Laboratory (NPOL), Cochin was conferred with Science Invention Award of Swadeshi Science Movement in a competition organised, in connection with Swadeshi Vijnana Mela Industrial Fair- 2002 held at Cochin.

National Design Award

RS RajuShri RS Raju, Sci F, Defence Metallurgical Research Laboratory.(DMRL), Hyderabad, has been awARDEd National Design Award in Mechanical Engineering by National, Design and Research Forum, the Institution of Engineers (India), Kolkata, for outstanding contribution in the field of engineering design at the inaugural function of the 16th Indian Engineering Congress.

LASTEC receives Horticultural Awards

The beautifully landscaped gARDEn of the Laser Science & Technology Centre (LASTEC), Delhi, A view of LASTEC Garden and the Challenge Cupwas adjudged the best mid-size Government lawn by YWCA, Delhi, and was awARDEd PCI Challenge Cup on 17 February 2002. The lawn was also declared as overall Best GARDEn of Delhi by the Delhi Agri-Horticultural Cup Society (DAHS) and LASTEC was presented DAHS Cup
on 3 March 2002.
