INSTRUMENTATION SUPPORT TO USERS

The Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE), Balasore, provided burst time measuring equipment support during the test of various VET Fuzes at PFFR, Lathi, Pokhran. A team comprising Lt Col R Vohra, SI Shri MR Panigrahi and MR Singh, both TO 'A' successfully measured the times to burst of all the fuzes under adverse conditions.

DEAL CELEBRATED ANNUAL DAY

The Defence Electronics Applications Laboratory (DEAL), Dehradun, celebrated the Annual Day on 23 February 2000. As a part of the celebration, various sports events and cultural programmes were organized where staff, officers and their family members participated.

RCI CELEBRATED WOMEN'S DAY

The Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, celebrated International Women's Day on 13 March 2000. Dr Uma Rangan, Faculty, Department of Psychology, Osmania University, Hyderabad, was the Chief Guest for the function. Mrs Azra Fatima, RCI, outlined salient features of the International Women's Day celebration. Dr Uma Rangan spoke on women and their role in the present social environment. Shri KV Ramana Sai, Sci G, Associate Director, RCI, spoke on the importance of Women's Day and the vital role played by the women in all areas of work. The other distinguished guests present on the occasion were: Smt Pavani, Secretary, Andhra Mahila Sabha and Smt. Rita Dhall, Principal, RCI, Defence School, Hyderabad.

R&DE (Engrs) CONTRIBUTED TO ORISSA CYCLONE

The Research & Development Establishment (Engineers), A view of rubberised water storage tank(R&DE (Engrs)), Pune, contributed in a big way by installing a portable 1,3,500 l/hr capacity water filtration and sterilization plant for the devastating cyclone effected people of village Gopiakud of ]Jagatsinghpur district of Orissa. The plant is complete With submersible pumping set and a diesel engine and was a boon in the absence of electricity. The water is sterilized by sodium hypochloride produced by electrolysis of common salt water. It is then passed under pressure through a filter element and supplied directly or stored into 7,000 tanks.

ARDE AWARDED 180-9001 CERTIFICATE

Shri PU Deshpande is also seen in the pictureThe Armament Research & Development Establishment (ARDE), Pune, was awARDEd ISO-9001 Certification in the field of armament technology, on 7 April 2000. Dr SK Salwan, Director, ARDE, received the Certificate from Shri Mario Rodrigues, General Manager, TUV Suddetschland, India representative of TUV Management Services, Germany. Shri PU Deshpande, CC R&D, DRDO HQrs, New Delhi, who was the Chief Guest for the function, emphasised that the Certification should strengthen the resolve to deliver better armament stores that are competitively priced globally so that the defence forces can afford to procure them within their resources.
