PM CONFERS DRDO TECHNOLOGY AWARDS
Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Atal Behari Vajpayee conferred the DRDO Technology Awards-2002 on 11 May 2003 as a part the National Technology Day celebration at an impressive ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi. The occasion was also graced by the Raksha Mantri, Scientific Adviser to Raksha Mantri and many other distinguished dignitaries.
These awards were introduced in 1998 to motivate and encourage scientists, technologists and our partners in industries as well as academicia, in accelerating the pace of development of critical technologies, transfer of technologies from the laboratories to industries and productionisation of the state-of-the-art defence systems.
The ceremony commenced with a brief welcome address by SA to RM followed by a video presentation on DRDO achievements. Dr SM Sharma, Director, Personnel read the citations and Shri VP Sandlas, DS & CC R&D, proposed the vote of thanks.
Silicon Trophy for the Best Systems Laboratory-2002 was awARDEd to the Electronics & Radar Development Establishment (LRDE), Bangalore, for significant contributions towards the development of futuristic technologies to achieve self-reliance in radar systems for the Services.
Titanium Trophy for the Best Science Laboratory-2002 was awARDEd to the Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE), Chandigarh, for significant contributions in the areas of avalanche forecasting, avalanche control structure, controlled release of ava- lanches using explosives and mountain meteorology.
In addition to the above, the following awards carrying a citation and a cash component for Rs 1 Lakh to Rs 10 Lakh were also presented:
