Appointments

 

Dr SN Dube, Sci F, has been appointed Director, Defence Research Laboratory (DRL), Tezpur w.e.f. 4 June 2004. Dr Dube has obtained MVSc (Pharmacology) from G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar and PhD in Pharmacology from Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi in 1977. Prior to joining DRL, he was Joint Director at DRDE, Gwalior. His areas of interest include pharmacological, electrophysiological and toxicological studies of toxins, organophosphorus compounds and heavy metals including possible therapeutic measures.

During 1987-89, he was a Visiting Research Associate at University of Maryland, Baltimore and Southern Illinois University, Springfield, USA. He has 70 research publications to his credit, including review articles and chapters contributed in books.

Dr Dube is a recipient of Nagendra Nath Dutta Award for a paper published in Indian Journal of Pharmacology-1977 and was awARDEd Gold Medal of the Society of Toxicology for outstanding presentation of research paper during Annual Conference of STOX at Assam Agricultural University, Guwahati in 1987. Presently, he is the Vice President of India Pharmacological Society and has been Fellow of Society of Toxicology.


Shri GC Das has been appointed Director, Proof & Experimental Establishment (PXE), Chandipur, w.e.f.1 June 2004. He obtained his BE from Regional Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur in 1968 and later completed PG Diploma in Rocketry and Missile Technology from Birla Institute of Technology, Ranchi. He joined as a JSA I at PXE in 1969 and since then has been serving the establishment in the fields of armament test and evaluation in various capacities. He was promoted as Sci F in 1998.

Shri Das has been trained in armaments at various institutions including IAT, Pune and CQA(A), Khadki. He is an expert in the field of test and evaluation of armament stores in the country. In recognition of his creative and innovative ideas in his field of work, he was awARDEd DRDO Cash Award-1986, DRDO Technology Award-1996 and DRDO Scientist of the Year Award-2003


Shri DS Sharma, Sci F, has been appointed Director, Rajbhasha and O&M at R&D HQrs, New Delhi. He obtained B Tech from G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar and M Tech (Industrial Engg) from IIT, Delhi in 1987. He completed his MBA (Finance) from Madurai Kamraj University, Madurai in 1994. He has put in 22 years of service in the Corps of EME before joining DRDS cadre in 1993 at Institute of Technology Management (ITM), Mussoorie where he served for 14 years as senior faculty member.

His areas of interest include finance management and accounting, project management, material management, operations management and industrial engineering techniques,etc.

Higher Qualification Achieved

Shri B S Swami, Sci C, Naval Materials Research Laboratory (NMRL), Ambernath, has been awARDEd PhD in Zoology by Mumbai University for his thesis entitled, Studies on the Variability among Macrofoulers on Test Panels exposed in Mumbai Harbour.

Lt Cmde Sampath B Suresh,
Kaveri Marinisation Group, Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), Bangalore, has been awARDEd PhD on the topic, Fault Diagnostics for Advanced Cycle Gas Turbine using Genetic Algorithm from Cranfield University, UK on completion of his research work sponsored by M/S Rolls Royce, U K .

Nomination to Professional Bodies

Dr PK Banerjee, Sci G, Director, Defence Institute of Physiology & Allied Sciences (DIPAS) Delhi, has been elected President of the Section of Medical Sciences (including Physiology) for 2004-2005 during 92nd Session of the Indian Science Congress Association.

Dr S Satyanarayana, Sci G, Director, NSTL, Visakha- patnam w.e.f. 1 July 2004.

Dr Sudershan Kumar, Sci F, Director of Materials, DRDO HQrs, New Delhi w.e.f. 1 July 2004.

DL(J) Raising Day

Defence Laboratory (DL), Jodhpur, celebrated its 45th Laboratory Raising Day on 16 May 2004. Speaking on the occasion Shri R K Syal, Director, DL(J) emphasised that the technologies developed by the laboratory should be world class and should suit defence personnel. Sports events were organised prior to the final function. Director presented Scientist of the Year Award, Technical Laboratory Awards to DRDS scientists, DRTC employees, administrative & allied staff. Cash awards were also given to 19 employees.
