DRDO CELEBRATES NATIONAL TECHNOLOGY DAY
The National Technology Day was celebrated all over the country on 11 May 2000 to mark the 2nd Anniversary of Shakti (Pokhran nuclear tests). A write up covering the National Technology Day celebration at central level was reported in the June 2000 issue of DRDO Newsletter. The various DRDO labs/estts in the country also held individual functions/ presentations. Some highlights of the individual events are reported here:
As a part of
the celebration, Shri AS Rajgopal, Officiating Director, addressed the gathering and read
out the message received in the occasion from Dr VK Aatre, SA to RM. A lecture on Metal
Injection Moulding Technology by Shri R Srinivas Rao, Sci D, was arranged to mark the
occasion. Shri Rao, in his informative presentation brought out various aspects of
relatively new manufacturing process NIM and its applications for INSAS components.
To mark the occasion, the Defence Institute of Fire Research (DIFR) , Delhi, organised a talk by Dr Chandra Prakash, sspl, Delhi, on Pyroelectric Sensors for Fire Detection Applications with special reference to selection of fir~ detectors for Particular situations.
The Defence Agricultural Research Laboratory (DARL), Pithoragarh, celebrated the National Technology Day with great enthusiasm. On this occasion, an Open Day was observed wherein various technologies developed by the Laboratory were exhibited. Over hundred students and teachers from various schools and colleges visited the Laboratory.
The High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL) , Pune, celebrated National Technology Day with great enthusiasm. Prof. J.B. Joshi, Director, University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT), Mumbai, who was the Chief Guest delivered an invited talk on Computational fluid Dynamics, A Scientific Tool for Design and Scale,up. An exhibition regarding some technologies developed by HEMRL was also arranged for public including school children. Earlier, a technical session was arranged where technical papers on the various technologies developed in the Laboratory were presented by a few scientists of the Laboratory. Awards were given to the best three technical papers presented.The Chief Guest handed over the Commendation Certificates and Gold Medals issued by Scientific Adviser to Raksha Mantri to Dr HS Yadav and his team of four scientists, viz., Dr BM Bohra, Shri T Nath, Shri GD Joshi and Shri KG lnamdar, for the significant contribution made by. the team in the field of advanced explosive reactive armour (ERA) .The Technology Rolling Trophy for the year 2006 was also given to the team for development of combustible cartridge case technology.
The Instruments Research & Development Establishment (IRDE), Dehradun, also observed an Open House to mark the Technology Day celebration. All instruments developed by the Establishment were demonstrated live for the school children, families of the employees and public. The exhibits included laser range finder, fibre,optic communication system, thermal imaging system, night vision devices, holograms, and optical components.
The Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), Chandigarh, organised an Open House at TBRL Range, Ramgarh, to mark the occasion. About 700 people visited the range and witnessed the firing demonstrations. A video film on the activities of TBRL was also shown to the visitors.
