Continued Education Programme
The Defence Research & Development Establishment (DRDE), Gwalior, organised a course on Chemical Sensors during 15-19 October 2001. The course included demonstration of portable GC and chemical agents monitor detection equipments developed by DRDE scientists. Dr DK Jaiswal, Director, DRDE, gave away certificates to the participants. Dr KD Vyas, Sci E, was the Course Director.
The Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, organised a course on Modal Testing and Analysis during 5-9 November 2001. The course covered both, theoretical and experimental domains of modal testing and analysis. Shri SK Ray, Sci G, officiating Director, welcomed the guests while Shri K Jayathirtha Rao, Sci G, gave an overview of the course. Shri AK Chakravarthy, Director (K -15), was the chief guest for the valedictory function.
The Solid State Physics Laboratory (sspl), Delhi, organised a course on Basic Laboratory Techniques during 19-23 November 2001. Twenty participants from various DRDO labs/estts attended the course. Dr Vikram Kumar, Director, sspl, inaugurated the course, while Dr (Smt) R Gulati, Sci G, delivered the keynote address. The participants were exposed to the basic techniques adopted in growth of material, processing, characterisation, operation of equipments, engineering practices in workshop, ensuring safety of individuals, computer-aided-designing and using computer network in management. Dr HP Vyas, Sci G, delivered the valedictory address and gave away certificates to the participants.
The Terminal Ballistics Research Laboratory (TBRL), Chandigarh, conducted a course on Programming Methodology during 19-23 November 2001. Lectures on various aspects of visual basics were delivered during the course. Apart from TBRL, experts from Punjab Engineering College and National Information Centre, Chandigarh, delivered the lectures.
The Defence Research & Development Establishment (DRDE), Gwalior, organised a course on Bioterrorism during 30-31 October 2001 for the benefit of Police Officers attached to the PM's office. The topics covered during the course were: Chemical and bioterrorism--their characteristics, toxic effects, detection and protection from decontamination; surveillance measures for biological agents and their rapid detection methods, prophylaxis, treatment, preparedness and management of post impact situation.
DRDE has facility to detect problems related to anthrax and has developed kits for the detection of the organism. It also has facility for detection of diseases like plague, dengue and typhoid.
The Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences (DIPAS), Delhi, organised a course on Transcendental Meditation during 26-29 November 2001. Twenty-two participants from various DRDO labs/estts attended the course. The objective of the course was to promote physical, mental and emotional growth by reducing stress through improving relaxation, increasing mental harmony, concentration and increasing memory by practice of transcendental meditation.
The Defence Laboratory (DL), Jodhpur, organised a course on Nuclear Emergency Preparedness during 5-9 November 2001. Twenty-three participants from various DRDO labs/estts attended the course. The topics covered during the course were: Nuclear physics concepts; ionising raDIATion detection and their biological effects; nuclear disaster, its effects and management. Shri RK Syal, Director, delivered the valedictory address and distributed certificates to the participants. Shri PK Bhatnagar, Sci F, was the Course Director.
