PRIME MINISTER & DEFENCE MINISTER VISIT SASE

Defence Minister being briefed about the activities of SASEHon'ble Defence Minister Shri George Fernandes, visited the Snow and Avalanche Study Establishment (SASE), Manali on 26 May 2002. Maj Gen (Retd) SS Sharma, KC, VSM, Director, SASE briefed the Defence Minister about Mountain Meteorology, Parvat, Him-Manthan, Remote Sensing and Avalanche Dynamics, etc.

The experiments being conducted at Cold Laboratory (upto-400C) were Prime Minister giving autograph on the bookalso demonstrated. While explaining the Upper Air Observation and its importance in weather prediction as apart of project Parvat, a hydrogen filled balloon with a set of MET instruments was released by the Defence Minister.

SASE also had the honour of hosting a dinner for Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, on behalf of Government of Himachal Pradesh. Maj Gen (Retd) SS Sharma, briefed the Prime Minister about the activities of SASE and presented the book Breaking the Ice in Antarctica written by him based on his experiences of the first Indian wintering at Antarctica.
