MORE ALLOYS CERTIFIED FOR LCA'S KAVERI

The Center for Military Airworthiness and Certification (CEMILAC), Bangalore - the regulatorycertification.jpg (28534 bytes) authority for air safety of military aircraft and systems, under the Ministry of Defence (R&D) - has granted eight type approvals for special alloys developed by the Mishra Dhatu Nigam (MIDHANI), Hyderabad. The special alloys are: Superni 263A (Nickel based alloy), MDN 431A (Martensitic Certification ceremony in progress grade stainless steel), Titan 23A and Titan 31A (Titanium-based alloys). These alloys, in the form of rolled and forged bars, are used in the manufacture of critical components of vital subsystems like combustion chamber and compressors of aero-engines. Development of these materials has been undertaken keeping Kaveri engine largely in view, which will power the LCA in the years to come.

The certification of strategic materials of this kind has enabled a shift from import of materials to indigenous production and this marks as yet another spin-off from major programmes like LCA and Kaveri engine project.
