Workshop on Awareness Programme on ISO/IEC 17025 for Checking the Competence of  Testing and Calibration Laboratories

The Vehicles Research & Development Establishment (VRDE), Ahmednagar, organised a Workshop on Awareness Programme on ISO/IEC 17025 for Checking the Competence of Testing and Calibration Labs on 13 June 2000. The Workshop was sponsored by QARC, DRDO and conducted by the TQM Counsellor of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), New Delhi. Officers from various DRDO labs/estts attended the Workshop.

Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights

The Institute of Technology Management (ITM) 1 Mussoorie, organised a three-day Workshop on Intellectual Property Rights, during 12-14 June 2000. The workshop was aimed at bringing awareness amongst the DRDO scientists on various aspects of IPR. The Workshop was spread over 12 technical sessions. Thirty scientists from various DRDO labs/estts attended the Workshop.

Shri RC Chakraborty, Director, ITM, welcomed the participants and Dr V Siddartha, Adviser (ER & IPR) delivered the keynote address. Dr P Ganguli, Manager, Special Project, Hindustan Lever Limited; Shri CM Gaind, Manager NRDC; Shri VK Bali, Tech Director, NIC and Shri NK Gupta, Examiner, Patent Office, delivered talks on Institutional Strategy for IPR, IPR services, patents database/patent search and provisions of the Patent Cooperation Treaty.

Shri V Gulwani and Shri A Kumar of IPR Group, DRDO HQrs and Shri S Ravi, DESIDOC, Delhi, were the DRDO experts for the Workshop and spoke on the issues related to the use of patent documents for R&D work and protecting DRDO innovations, Indian Patents Act and amendments, and patent search services available at DESIDOC.

Workshop on Halon Alternative Technologies

The Defence Institute of Fire Research, Delhi in collaboration with Indian Halon Alternative Options Committee organised a two-day Workshop on Halon Alternative Technologies at Delhi and Mumbai, on 24 and 28 April 2000, respectively. The Workshop was sponsored by Ozone Cell MOEF, UNDP and DIFR. The aim of the Workshop was to identify halon alternative technologies in India and its availability in world scenario. About 150 delegates participated in both the Workshops. The Workshops categorically found the following halon alternative technologies for adoption in India:
