Continuing Education Programme

SASE, Manali

Under the continuing education programme of DRDO, the Snow & Avalanche A session of course in progressStudy Establishment (SASE) HQrs, Manali, in association with the Space Application Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad, organised a course on Application of Remote Sensing for Snow, Ice & Glacier Studies, during 1-12 May 2000. Twenty scientists from SASE, other DRDO labs/estts and participants from various user organisations attended the course. Dr RR Navalgund, Dr Shailesh Naik, Dr A V Kulkarni and experts from SAC delivered lectures on diversified areas of the subject including advanced levels of digital image processing techniques. The training on satellite data processing was provided by the experts in an interactive mode where the participants  got experience in working simultaneously on the computers loaded with image processing software to analyse multi-date IRS WiFS, LISS and PAN sensor date of snow bound areas for identification of areal extent of snow cover, discrimination of fresh vs old snow, ice and also various terrain/glacial features. Maj Gen PN Kapoor, AVSM, former Director of Engineering, DRDO HQrs, New Delhi, distributed the certificates and momentos to the participants.

The Naval Research Board (NRB) Panel Meeting on Sonar and Signal Behaviour was organised at the Naval Physical & Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), Kochi, during 29-30 May 2000, under the Chairmanship of Dr R Bahl, Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi.
