VFW 3D CNC Coordinate Measuring Machine
Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Hyderabad, has
Commissioned Retrofitted and Upgraded VFW 3D CNC Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM).
The CMM facility is used for alignment checks of integrated missiles,
measurement of critical dimension geometrical and form accuracies of missile
hardware. Right from inception, machine has been the principal workhorse of DRDL
in assessing inter-stage final quality of integrated missiles, sub-assemblies
and related tooling.
The machine has a measuring range of 15.0 m (X-axis), 2.4m (V-Axis ) (shared by
two columns) and 2.4m (Z-axis). The then state-of-art technology controller,
motors, drives, feedback systems and application software have become obsolete
over a period of time. Recently, the machine was retrofitted and upgraded with
the state-of-art technology. The upgraded machine is equipped with Renishaw UCC1
controllers, motors, drives, Renishaw linear scale feedback systems, Renishaw
PH10M motorised probe heads and CAD-based VDMIS V 4.8 metrology application
software. Advanced CAD based application software enables CNC programs
generation in virtual environment and the volumetric measurement uncertainty of
the upgraded machine is less than 200 microns over full range.
