Membership to Professional Bodies

NSTL, Visakhapatnam, has established a Wind Tunnel Facility to supplement high speed towing tank for conducting preliminary hydrodynamic studies of underwater bodies. Tests in wind tunnel are less expensive and faster as compared to similar ones in towing tanks. This facility will be preeminently useful for torpedo development for detailed study of pressure distribution over the body and control surfaces; and for studies of vehicle hydrodynamics, vehicle-propulsor interaction, propulsor development, etc. Measurements of flow pattern on the model and propulsor, boundary layer, wakes, etc are carried out with this facility. Determination of tentative shapes, location of appendages, identification of most advantageous configuration for various speed combinations is feasible with this facility. Optimization of cowl shapes is most conveniently done in the wind tunnel.
