DRDO CELEBRATES INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY
Various DRDO labs/estts celebrated International Women's Day on 8
March 2004. Highlights of some of the activities are given below:
Smt Hemalatha Mahishi, Advocate was the Chief Guest on the occasion. As a part of the celebrations, an exhibition on the theme, Women from Ancient to Modern Times, a quiz and presentation programme was organised.
Smt M Bhaskar Lakshmi, Senior Advocate of Hyderabad High Court, was the Chief Guest and Smt Renuka Agarwal, the Guest of Honour for the celebrations. Smt G Rohini Devi, Sci G, expressed that how career women can excel by having a stable and clear focus on professional as well as domestic issues
Dr Sandhya Sridher, MD, DNB, MNAMS, Associate Prof Ramachandra Medical College & Hospital, Chennai, was the Chief Guest for the celebrations.
Celebration was preceded by week long activities in the laboratory to bring awareness of women's rights and their contributions to the society. A special awareness programme was organised for Group D employees. Dr C Leela (Retd.) Obstetrician & Gynaecologist, Government Maternity Hospital was invited to address on the health issues. Justice Rajendram was the Chief Guest who delivered the keynote address on Implementation of Supreme Court Guidelines Regarding Sexual Harassment at Workplace.
Smt V Prameela, Sci E, Vice Chairperson of Women's Cell briefed about the activities and achievements of the year 2003-04. The chief guest Prof Kinnera Murthy, ASCI, Hyderabad, in her address stressed that organisations have to consider women issue as HR issues, men should come forward to celebrate the day and also have open forums to discuss burning issues.
Naval Physical & Oceanographic Laboratory (NPOL), Kochi, organised an invited talk on Status of Women: A Contemporary Scenario by Smt (Dr) MD Baby, University Librarian, Cochin University of Science and Technology to mark the International Women's Day. The talk focused on the role and challenges of women in the contemporary society.
As a part of the celebrations, Dr SK Choudhury, Sci G, delivered a talk and stressed on the better participation of women in all areas of work for their all round development.
