Continuing Education Programme

DL, Jodhpur

Under the Continuing Education Programme of DRDO, the Defence Laboratory (DL), Jodhpur, organised a five-day course on Water Quality Assessment and Purification Technologies during 11-15 February 2002. Dr JR Sharma, Director, Regional Remote Sensing Service Centre, Jodhpur, inaugurated the course while Shri RK Syal, Director, DL, Jodhpur, delivered the inaugural address. Seventeen participants from various DRDO labs/estts attended the course. Shri VS Vangani, Joint Director, distributed course certificates to the participants during the valedictory function. Dr SK Jain, Sci E, was the Course Director .

GTRE, Bangalore

The Gas Turbine Research Establishment (GTRE), Bangalore, organised a course on Gas Turbine Propulsion during 15-25 January 2002. Twenty-one participants attended the course. Dr K Murugesan, Sci G, Deputy Head, Propulsion Division, NAL, Bangalore, was the Chief Guest of valedictory function and distributed course certificates to the participants.

  • GTRE, organised another course on IDEAS & CAD Modelling from 25 January-8 February 2002. Twenty-three participants from various DRDO labs/estts attended the course. Dr RK Ramanathan, Gp Director, ADA, Bangalore, was the Chief Guest for the valedictory function.

NMRL, Ambernath

The Naval Materials Research Laboratory (NMRL), Ambernath, organised a course on Functionally Graded Materials and their  Application during 18-22 February2002. Fourteen lectures were arranged during the course.

sspl, Delhi

The Solid State Physics Laboratory (sspl), Delhi organised a course on High Frequency Devices: Design, Fabrication and Characterisation during 4-8 February 2002. Dr Vikram Kumar, Director, sspl  inaugurated the course. Prof SK Koul, lIT, Delhi, delivered the key note address. Twenty participants from various DRDO labs/estts attended the course. Dr (Smt) Ramesh Gulatl, Sci G, delivered the valedictory address and distributed certificates to the participants.

R&DE (Engrs), Pune

The Research & Development Establishment Engineers (R&DE(Engrs)); Pune, organised a course on UPS and Mobile Power Sources and Electrical Equipment Systems during 7-11 January 2002. Twenty-three participants including 11 from various DRDO labs/estts attended the course. Shri BK Datta, Sci E, was the Course Director while Col SR Dharwadkar, HRD Coordinator, presided over the valedictory function.

Other Courses


The  High Energy Materials Research Laboratory (HEMRL), Pune, organised a workshop on Propulsion Systems during 1-2 February 2002. Shri M Natarajan, Distinguished Scientist and CCR&D (ACE) inaugurated the workshop which was attended by 80 delegates.

The workshop included: (1) Rockets and Missiles session chaired by Dr VK Saraswat, Outstanding Scientist & Director, RCI and co-chaired by Shri AK Kapoor, Sci G, DRDL; and was followed by two overviews by Dr Haridwar Singh, Outstanding Scientist & Director, HEMRL and Shri A Subhananda Rao, ASL. (2) Aircraft session chaired by Dr KVL Rao, ADA and co-chaired by Dr V Shankar, GTRE. It was followed by overview by Shri V Sundararajan, Outstanding Scientist & Director, GTRE. (3) Land-based Weapon Systems session including Armoured Vehicles chaired by Dr D Hanumanna, Director, CVRDE and co-chaired by Shri YP Pathak, Director, R&DE (Engrs). The third session had overview by Shri PU Deshpande, Outstanding Scientist & Director, ARDE & IA T, Pune and by Shri PL Sathyanarayanan, Sci G which was followed by panel discussion chaired by Shri M Natarajan, Distinguished Scientist & CC R&D (ACE). Shri AK Kapoor, Sci G, DRDL, Hyderabad; Dr V Shankar, Sci F, GTRE, Bangalore; and Dr SN Asthana, Sci F, HEMRL, Pune, coordinated the workshop.

 NSTL, Visakhapatnam

The Naval Science & Technological Laboratory (NSTL), organised a National Seminar on Marine Hydrodynamics Prospects and Progress in Indian Context during 1-2  February 2002 under the aegis of the Naval Research Board of DRDO. The seminar covered technical sessions on the themes of computational methods in hydrodynamics, hydrodynamics for design, experimental technologies, fluid structure interaction including off-shore structures and cavitation, and hydro-acoustics. About 200 delegates from academic institutions, research organisations, Indian Navy and shipyards attended the seminar . Dr K Satyanarayna, Associate Director, was the convenor of the seminar while Capt  N Banerjee, was the Organising Secretary

RCI, Hyderabad

The Research Centre Imarat (RCI), Hyderabad, and Aeronautical Development  Establishment (ADE) Bangalore, jointly organised a workshop on Control Systems for Defence Applications (CONSYS-2002) during, 1-2 February 2002. Shri VP Sandlas Distinguished Scientist & CCR&D (ECS) inaugurated the workshop while Professor TK , Goshal, Jadhavpur University, Kolkata delivered the keynote address. Thirty-five papers from various DRDO labs/estts and academic institutions were presented in areas control systems, control system design techniques and technologies, simulation, testing evaluation of control systems. Shri SK Ray, Sci G, Chairman, workshop presided over  valedictory function.
